A bronze canopy almost 30 metres high on four twisted columns wreathed with laurel, rising above the papal altar and the tomb of Saint Peter beneath the dome, with the gilded glory of the Chair of Saint Peter glowing in the apse beyond. Bernini made it in 1624–1633 for Pope Urban VIII Barberini, whose bees adorn it.
