The Virgin and Child flanked by Saints Nicholas, John the Evangelist, Peter and Benedict under gold arches, one of the earliest polyptychs, its frame evoking the arcades of a loggia. Painted by Giotto around 1295–1300 for the Badia Fiorentina, it has been in the Uffizi since 1966.
