St Petersburg, Russia
St Petersburg, founded by Peter the Great in 1703 on the Neva delta, was the capital of Russia for two centuries. Its canals, palaces and cathedrals make up a historic centre listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This large gallery was photographed in 2006: the Hermitage, St Isaac's Cathedral, the Church of the Saviour on Blood, the Peter and Paul Fortress, Nevsky Prospekt, the Neva, the Summer Garden and several hotels.
