The last Duke of Courland stands in a park in a crimson coat with the blue sash of an order, leaning on a cane, under a gilded frame crowned with his monogram. Court painter Friedrich Hartmann Barisien painted him in 1781; Duke Peter finished the decoration of Rundāle and gave up his duchy to Russia in 1795.
