Outer walls and towers of the keep precinct – Royal City of Loches

Round towers and long curtain walls in pale tufa surround the keep, seen here above the grass of the former ditches. The ramparts, begun in the 11th century, were strengthened during the wars between the Plantagenets and the Capetians.
