A black lacquer desk painted with Far Eastern scenes, mounted with gilded bronze rococo scrolls and topped by a clock with gilt figures, stands beside the balustrade of the state bedroom. Elector Karl Albrecht ordered such lavish lacquered furniture from Paris cabinetmakers for the Ornate Rooms in the 1730s.
