La Montagne – Germaine Richier – Maeght Foundation, Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Two spindly bronze creatures, half human and half insect, stretch thin wires between them over a tiled base on the lawn, as if hauling or measuring a mountain. Germaine Richier, a major French sculptor of the post-war years, made La Montagne in 1955–1956, shortly before her death.
