Eduardo Arroyo Exhibition – Spanish Themes – Maeght Foundation, Saint-Paul-de-Vence

In the 2017 summer exhibition devoted to Eduardo Arroyo, a painting framed with hooks shows an inn sign written in Spanish, English, French and Italian, La Hostería del Laurel, and another, signed in 1964, two identical toreadors on either side of a column. Born in Madrid in 1937 and exiled in Paris from 1958 under Franco, Arroyo constantly mocked the clichés of Spain, from bullfighting to Catholic tradition.
